The Transits: Lost In Space

Aotearoa NZ-South African band The Transits have released their edgy new single and video ‘Renegade Hearts’, and we're so stoked this trio is back releasing music together again. Ryan Lunn (vocals, guitars, synths), Dom Antelme (vocals, bass) and Tyrone Smith (drums) make up The Transits; who have been making music together on and off since forming their first band 30 years ago as teenagers in Durban, South Africa.

With lots more to come from these guys, we wanted to know what inspires them (to prepare for the future releases of course). So we asked them if they got lost in space with a record player, what are 5 albums they couldn't live without?

Album #1

The Pixies - Doolittle

It’s banger after banger. A perfect album from beginning to end. Filled with everything… ugliness and beauty, pain and pleasure. It’s all there. This is the one band I could honestly say has had the most influence on me. They are the goat for me. (Dom - The Transits)

Album #2

Weezer - Blue album

It’s rare that a debut album is as flawless as this. I will fight anyone that disagrees. This is our generations Beatles white album. Boundless energy balanced with soft and tender moments that always hit the heart just right. An essential album. (Ryan - The Transits)

Album #3

Summercamp- Pure Juice

Not many people know about this band and that’s a damn shame. Pre emo but emo as hell, although you’d be fooled by these ridiculously catchy songs. I'm a  huge fans of how this band ends their songs… always big! Which ensures you really listen thoroughly from the beginning to the end. (Tyrone - The Transits)

Album #4

Coheed and Cambria - Good Apollo, I’m burning star IV Volume One

A stupidly long album name but I can forgive them for that because this album is one of my all time favs. Another one I can’t really fault. Dark and moody with some pretty brutal lyrics at times but wrapped up in a super catchy melodic candy bar. This album will always have a special place in my heart. You can truly feel the pain in some of his lyrics and get sucker punched by those ridiculous hooks. (Tyrone - The Transits)

Album #5

Depeche Mode - Violator

Well this one goes deep. It takes me way way back to my youth. At the time I had no idea about the emotional depth of these lyrics, but I knew I liked this album a lot. Now when I listen to this album i'm in awe of how different and unique what they were doing at that time was. Once again, impossible to fault this album. The synth sounds and arrangements are absolutely epic and David’s vocal unmistakable... Deep, moody and beautiful. (Dom - The Transits)

The Transits: Playlist Picks

We asked The Transits if they could hook us up with their go-to Spotify playlist for an even deeper dive into their inspirations. It's an 80's dream. Enjoy!
