Rita Mae: Lost In Space

Aotearoa’s rising indie star Rita Mae has released the deluxe edition of her critically-acclaimed EP SUPERFEELING, and it's fair to say we're obsessed. The EP features the recently released haunting track ‘The Nightmare’ and the reworked version of the single ‘Candy’s House’ - ‘Candy’s House’ (Comedown Song)’ which captures the "aftermath of the escape" from the night out the original song was about.

We wanted to know what inspires Rita's music, so we asked her if she got lost in space with a record player, what are 5 albums she couldn't live without?

Album #1

Okay Computer - Radiohead

This album is my childhood/soundtrack to many melancholic teen bus rides to high school. Massively shaped my music taste for early songwriting.

Album #2

Fearless - Taylor Swift

Ultimate nostalgia album for my early dreams of being a singer/songwriter. I rinsed this album to death and tried so hard to write songs like this for years, still hits now.

Album #3

Songs Of Leonard Cohen - Leonard Cohen

The beauty of this writing combined with the beauty of the melodies adds up to so much more than the sum of its parts. Such a magical album, another old nostalgia one for me.

Album #4

Pool - Porches

A very sad strange beautiful album that I discovered only a year ago. The lyrics are often simple but slightly odd, describing feelings I am familiar with but have never been able to put a finger on. The production on this record is something I aspire to make some day.

Album #5

Lucinda Williams

She rips my heart out. My mum's favourite artist, I used to hear it from her painting studio.
