LOVETA: Lost In Space
LOVETA is a name you're going to want to remember. Quickly rising in the Aotearoa music scene, this Ĺtautahi-based artist released her debut EP MORE THAN FUN in 2022, which featured the single ‘All We Got’ - a track that reached #7 Hot 20 Singles Chart and #15 on the RadioScope Most Added.
She's just released a heartfelt new rock-ballad ‘Take It Slow’, and will be headlining a show at Christchurch’s 12 Bar on May 5 to celebrate the release!
Showing no signs of slowing down, we wanted to get to know LOVETA more. We asked her if she got lost in space with a record player, what are 5 albums she couldn't live without?
Album #1
Back To Black - Amy Winehouse
"Hearing this album for the first time when I was a teenager, I knew it would leave a mark on me as an artist. Musically I loved how there was a lot of 60's influence in the production, and combined with Amy's incredible vocals and the depth of her songwriting, it's stayed with me throughout my career. I also cover a lot of her songs when I play gigs, and 'You Know I'm No Good' and 'Back to Black' are some of my favourites to play live."
Album #2
Ultraviolence - Lana Del Rey
"Every Lana Del Rey album connects with me in a different way, but Ultraviolence was something special. It came out just as I had moved to Melbourne back in 2014 and became the soundtrack to that time in my life. The heavily melancholic melodies, vintage guitars, and psychedelic rock sound blew my mind and heavily influenced the sound of my latest track ' Take It Slow'. I find 'West Coast' and 'Shades of Cool' to be especially poignant tracks that I always go back to."
Album #3
Future Nostalgia - Dua Lipa
"This album was what inspired me to begin my journey of writing retro-influenced pop tunes. The flawless execution of funky feel-good music was something I wanted to capture myself. It's the perfect party album, great for singing and dancing along, and seeing Dua perform it live was life changing. She brings sounds of the past to the present, which I adore."
Album #4
SiR - Chasing Summer
"The smooth R&B sounds of SiR carried me period of travelling a couple of years ago, where I went everywhere from the USA and Canada, to Hawaii and South America. 'Chasing Summer' has a feel of sadness and restlessness for me, which i could relate to at the time, and I find it very nostalgic to listen to now. The album provides the perfect chill vibe for relaxing on a beach, or taking a car ride or flight, and I especially love the tracks 'Mood' and 'The Recipe' for this."
Album #5
Dawn - YEBBA
"Where do I start with this album? I've always appreciated YEBBA's unbelievable vocals and had been patiently waiting for more music from her after she released 'Yebba's Heartbreak'. It's a wonderful combination of folk, soul, R&B, and hip hop, and I can tell she put her heart and soul into this album - my favourite tracks being 'Louie Bag' and 'Far Away'. 'Dawn' is one of those bodies of work that inspires me to be authentic and push myself as an vocalist and songwriter."
