Jessica Leigh: Lost In Space
Wellington based Jessica Leigh has recently released the upbeat, warm, synth heavy track 'my way' and we wanted to find out what inspired her! So, as we do here at Space Cadet, we asked her if she got lost in space, (and happened to have a record player - of course), what are 5 albums she couldn't live without?
Album #1
Melodrama - Lorde
"This is my favourite album of all time!! To me, it's a *perfect* sonic representation of all the complex, beautiful and awful emotions we go through in our early twenties. I've never felt more understood by something and I always feel less alone when I listen to Melodrama. No skips. 10/10."
Album #2
NFR - Lana Del Ray
"Where would any of us sad girls be without Lana Del Rey?(?!) Ultraviolence was monumental for me growing up as I was learning about songwriting. So now every time I listen to Lana I get this huge rush of nostalgia and I'm reminded why I fell in love with writing music! NFR has some of my favourite songs of hers of all time on it, some of them literally take my breath away. The songwriting on this album is stunning."
Album #3
I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It - The 1975
"Another incredibly important album in my life. I fell in love with this album listening to it on trains in London when I was there for the first time. This album was crucial for me in learning how to romanticise my life, which is where I draw all of my inspiration from now. The world was just starting to get bigger for me as I discovered this album, and I think it will always remind me of those initial feelings of independence and freedom, and that my experiences in life are worthy of being put into art. "
Album #4
1989 - Taylor Swift
"I would not be half the hopeless romantic as I am without this woman - she taught me everything I know about the profession. 1989 is a perfect pop album that never fails to reignite my passion and excitement for pop music. The 80s synths, the mesmerising lyricism, the unforgettable melodies... Incredible."
Album #5
The Gods We Can Touch - AURORA
"I discovered this album in late 2022 but it's already become one of my favourites. Aurora's hauntingly beautiful vocals and spellbinding songwriting literally give me chills. This album is so unique and interesting, covering an incredibly broad range of emotions and feelings. I love it!!"
