Jason Parker: Lost In Space
Rising pop star Jason Parker is counting down to his debut EP (11 November), and we wanted to know a little more about his influences to aid in our excitement for the EP. We asked Jason if he got lost in space, (and happened to have a record player - of course), what are 5 albums he couldn't live without?
Album #1
Emotion - Carly Rae Jepsen
"Fun fact, when a queer person is born they are compelled to stan one diva above any other. My diva is Carly Rae and it’s all thanks to this album. Emotion is a no duds, hit after hit experience. Run Away With Me is one of the greatest opening tracks of all time. Gimmie Love has the energy of a song I hope to write one day and like who hasn’t had Boy Problems?! I feel like I have a real connection with Carly Rae and I still listen to this album on the weekly 7 years later. "
Album #2
Melodrama - Lorde
"I remember the exact moment I heard Green Light for the first time. It was released near Mardi Gras weekend in Sydney and me and my party gurls had all flown from different parts of the world to be together. We danced under trees at 3am and when the whole album dropped I legit felt like Lorde had written an album about my experience even though I haven’t yet been to The Louvre. This album is camp and dramatic and I gotta say I’m a sucker for some Jack Antonoff production. The real highlight for me is Super Cut, I imagine this album will get me through some lonely nights in space."
Album #3
Teenage Dream - Katy Perry
"2010 was one of the greatest times in my personal music history. We had Gaga, Kesha, Miley, Rihanna, Adam Lambert blasting through our iTunes accounts, like we could not be tamed. But I gotta tell you, to this day I still believe that Teenage Dream is still one of the greatest songs ever written, so it’s gotta come with me to space. This album has so many memories attached to it, watching Katy live in Auckland, the music video for Last Friday Night having the Glee cast in it, The One That Got Away is mine and my best friend Stephs song. It’s pop done perfect and inspired a whole lot of artists to come, including myself."
Album #4
Body Talk - Robyn
"This album sounds like space to me. With tracks like Fembot and Stars Forever I feel like an alien search squad would vibe with Robyn as much as me, take me to safety then onto a rescue rave. Robyn has always been a consistent hit on my party playlists and Body Talk is filled with some of her greatest work. The cultural shift that happened when Call Your Girlfriend was released was and still is huge. There is something that hits so damn good with Swedish Pop and I won’t stop (body) talking about it even from space."
Album #5
RENAISSANCE -
Beyonce
"I mean Beyonce is sitting on a mirror ball horse for gawd sake she’s giving gay pride and I haven’t stopped living. Everything about this album is so sexy and unapologetic. Pam (my car) only plays CDs and this has been sitting in the CD player since I got it. Heated is super hot, Cozy is hot hot hot, and there is two more parts coming, legit screaming! I really hope I get stranded in space after I get to hear the completed trilogy!"
