Coast Arcade: Lost In Space
Indie pop rock band Coast Arcade have just released their latest single 'Highest Heights' and it's a certified banger with unforgettable hooks! We asked the Auckland based 4-piece if they got lost in space with their record player, what are 5 albums they couldn't live without?
Album #1
The Green Superintendent EP - Mako Road
"This EP is very significant to me as Mako Road were one of my kiwi idols when we first started the band. This EP and their music is the perfect example of the genre I love and listen to. I always dreamed of opening for them or being a kiwi icon as great as them. We even cover one of their songs in our set, which is definitely one of my favourites to play. I couldn’t think of a band that fits my vibe or sound more than them, apart from Coast Arcade of course ;)" - Chris
Album #2
Demon Days -
Gorillaz
"I’ll always enjoy listening to this album, as it has songs varying from rock, rap, and dance to chill mellowed down stuff. Personally, I like a range of genres and like bouncing between them, and Gorillaz naturally fit right in. Each song is made so differently from the next and is written in a way that is an inspiration to me for future songwriting. I wouldn’t want to have a playlist without some songs from Demon Days in it" - Nate
Album #3
Wasting Light - Foo Fighters
"For me, this album is the reason I play and love music so much. It takes me back to when I was a kid with my dad in his little Ford Fiesta and we would play the album on repeat wherever we went. The reason this album is so important to me is Taylor Hawkins's drums. Just hearing how driving and powerful Taylor Hawkins's drums are in this album inspires the way I play drums today. They are so driving and straight, which is something I carry through into my drumming and that is great because this really reflects Coast Arcades genre. My little four-year-old self was like "jesus, this guy is amazing." Today this album still means so much to me and when wanting to learn something new I will relate back to it and find a fill or a backbeat to teach myself to improve the musician I am now." - Thom
Album #4
Pegasus - The Pheonix Foundation
"This album for me is one of the foundations my love for Indie and Alternative music stems from. This album was released when I was two years old I can remember the songs on this album being a staple in my household for many, many years. Every time I listen to the tracks, I discover new nuances and new little bits of inspiration. Each song brings something so different to the table while still being so classically "The Pheonix Foundation." This album also has something that really captures the essence of kiwi music and although I can't quite put my finger on what that is, I LOVE IT!" - Bella
Album #5
Jump Rope Gazers -
The Beths
"We decided on this album together as "The Beths" have always been a massive inspiration for us and they were our first big opening slot back in January last year. Since that show, we have accomplished so much and it has always been a highlight to look back on. The album "Jump Rope Gazers" is one of the best albums ever and there is not a single song that we would skip. On every car or road trip, we always blast this album, especially "Dying To Believe," backing vocals and all."
